In Line with Technology and a Communication Degree

Communication Degree

There are a lot of improvements that are happening when it comes to technology these days but these are not in any way detrimental to those with a communication degree. Communications is one of those things that need the human mind, from emotions to imagination, and unless machines can handle these alone, technology is not something to be afraid of. There are several kinds of work though that have experienced the wrath of technology.

Right now, there are no more telephone switchboard operators because of technology. In the past, international calls could be placed in the States thanks to the work done by telephone switchboard operators whose voices were loved by a number of callers in America. What you have here is old school technology.

When switchboards were replaced with modern computers, a lot of telephone switchboard operators lost their source of income. Ever since then, telephony has developed to the point that wires are also obsolete. Modern technology allows people to engage in phone calls where the person on the other line can be seen.

There are no more ticket booth operators. Tickets for trains are now dispensed through ticketing machines and the quickness of the process is something that a number of commuters prefer. Considering the fact that ATMs make banking easier, the jobs of bank tellers are in jeopardy too.

The concept of online banking is another thing that threatens bank tellers. The idea of going about someone’s baking activities without going to the bank was considered farfetched for some time. Because banking transactions can be done from your home, everything becomes safer not to mention easier to accomplish.

As technology continues to improve, the reliance on libraries might cease. When it comes to library visitors, they are decreasing in number. Nowadays, people can get all of the different resources that they need from books to images to films from the Internet and a click is all it takes to do so.

There are a number of industries that have been left with no alternative but to fire off some people because of tech evolution. Several years ago, a team of clerks was needed if a company wanted databases made and things computed and documents filed as one clerk cannot fulfill all of these jobs. Such jobs can be dealt with by a single computer system.

There are plenty of printing companies that are making moves to protect their businesses. Printing companies are no longer needed if someone needed a printed copy of something as printers and software are readily available. There is always room for books even if we now live in a world where e books are the talk of the town.

According to experts, jobs that are mostly mechanical and requiring very little cognitive load are in danger of being phased out. Jobs from bank teller work to operating jobs are slowly being replaced by technology. Different kinds of employment options are being created by technology from computer tech work to broadband related jobs to gaming work and so on even if the same technology is to blame for the loss of other forms of employment.

Even as technology continues to improve, people who are employed as writers and in other forms of communication will be secure in their jobs. Corporations, both traditional and high-tech, need people to create communications pieces for their products or services using any and all forms of media. As experts say, there will always be room for jobs that involve the human mindset.
